So by now (hopefully), you’ve all binge watched this incredible Netflix series. Spike Lee doesn’t disappoint, at least not with this updated version of the original 1986 film She’s Gotta Have It. Did you know that was his first feature length film? He also starred as Mars, my favorite character in the Netflix series. Let me first say, he grew on me because during the first episode I couldn’t stand him.
So, I think I’m an ageist.
Let me clean that up. I’m an ageist when it comes to men I date. They can’t be “too old or too young”. I really didn’t date in Chicago.
Shoutout to “Insecure” for making me reflect on my own “mistakes” (in quotes, because are they really mistakes if we learned from them?) AND successes. If you haven’t watched this show, you should definitely check it out.
I’m gonna be real.
(1) T***p. (Still can’t seem to spell the whole name out…)
When he was elected, many said, “Well, what’s the worst he could do? He still has to answer to someone”. He’s playing show and tell now. He was in NY last week telling officers they don’t have to be “gentle” with prisoners when putting them in the back of squad cars and then banning folks from serving our country? As many people that DON’T want to/wouldn’t do it, you’re stopping those that do?Agh… #TransPeopleAreNotABurden
(2) It’s okay to let people go. Continue reading “3 Things We’re Discussing from Last Week.”
So, it’s been a year and it feels like I was just picking up that SUV and hitting the road to check off yet another goal on my list. Sometimes, I still can’t believe I’m here. Even with the crowded trains, Mickey and Minnie on the train tracks, small apartments, guys yelling “Yo Ma” at every block, hitting up random premieres with and without appearances of the stars that will grace your screen, rushing to the laundromat (or sending your clothes out – because really, who has in unit washer and dryer here?). Plus more.
Self-care is hard, especially with so many things going on nowadays, but that’s why it’s most important. Here are four of the ways that I like to (or will try to) practice self care.
So, I’m a Golden Girls fan. I could literally watch that show everyday for the rest of my life. So, when I heard there was going to be a GG themed cafe, I made the trek to Washington Heights (a long way from Brooklyn by train) to see what it was about.
Picture it…NYC 2017.
It’s called Rue La Rue Cafe and I loved it!! It is pretty small, like everywhere else in NY, so don’t let that scare you off. It was a soft-opening when I went but SO packed. They had a lot of Rue McClanahan’s (AKA Blanche) clothing and memorabilia so it was kind of centered off of her. A close friend of hers, Michael LaRue, is a co-owner.
I’m not ashamed to say that I’m not a big cheesecake fan, BUT I did get the chocolate cheesecake with a Bellini – both were good! While in line (you didn’t think you could just walk right in, right?), Michael came out with one of their signature items – buttermilk biscuits with strawberry butter. Let’s just say, I took some home. 😋
I’ll definitely be back this summer, when I’m prepared to stand in line outside. 😫
By now, we’ve all heard of the Tyrese shenanigans he laid on us last week. If not, see below.
That was just, uh, mean. What?! This is the same guy who stole our hearts with “Sweet Lady” and other love ballads, but lately (last few years) he’s been losing his touch. I just can’t fathom how men can tell women how to be women, but hey..
So, I first saw this when a friend commented on a link that caused a bit of a debate. A snippet of her response was:
So, sometimes I do things when I think I crossed the line. This may have been one of those times. I’ll let you be the judge.
[insert rolling eyes emoji here] Yes, I actually would mind.
I’m convinced there’s a yearly convention held to discuss the new “rules” of the dating game. Men only.
