My First International Trip – Guadeloupe!

I’m about two months late posting on this, but it’s here. ha!

So, yall. My college friends always said that they will never go out of the country with me, especially with me going to the Caribbean, because I LOVE Caribbean men. Like, it’s crazy. The first thing any of my friends ask when I say I’ve met someone is, “So, where is he from?” 😂 If he just so happened to be born in NY, his parents weren’t. Look, I can’t help it.

I Am Not My Hair (Or Lack Of).

As a woman, our hair becomes a part of us, our identity. Whether we wear it short, long, big, etc. For some of us, the longer we let it grow, the more it hurts us when we let it go. I’ve never had really long hair. I just don’t think my hair grows like that, let’s be honest here. I like shorter hair though. Well, let’s say some time ago I liked it short enough to do two-strand twists, and all of that. Something like this.

Runnin’ Through Lovers (Dating is Exhausting)

Yep, you read it right. E X H A U S T I N G. I know when I first started this blog it was literally about all of the dates I went on (humble brag), and now it’s different. It’s just about…me. Not to say that I won’t ever write about those experiences again, because they were fun, eye-opening, and I learned SO much from them.

My First Kwanzaa Celebration!

According to the official Kwanzaa website, “Kwanzaa is an African American and Pan-African holiday which celebrates family, community and culture. Celebrated from 26 December thru 1 January, its origins are in the first harvest celebrations of Africa from which it takes its name. The name Kwanzaa is derived from the phrase “matunda ya kwanza” which means “first fruits” in Swahili, a Pan-African language which is the most widely spoken African language.”

She’s Gotta Have It, but Can She Have It All?

So by now (hopefully), you’ve all binge watched this incredible Netflix series. Spike Lee doesn’t disappoint, at least not with this updated version of the original 1986 film She’s Gotta Have It. Did you know that was his first feature length film? He also starred as Mars, my favorite character in the Netflix series. Let me first say, he grew on me because during the first episode I couldn’t stand him.

3 Things We’re Discussing from Last Week.

(1) T***p. (Still can’t seem to spell the whole name out…)

When he was elected, many said, “Well, what’s the worst he could do? He still has to answer to someone”. He’s playing show and tell now. He was in NY last week telling officers they don’t have to be “gentle” with prisoners when putting them in the back of squad cars and then banning folks from serving our country? As many people that DON’T want to/wouldn’t do it, you’re stopping those that do?Agh… #TransPeopleAreNotABurden

(2) It’s okay to let people go.  Continue reading “3 Things We’re Discussing from Last Week.”

It’s been a year.

So, it’s been a year and it feels like I was just picking up that SUV and hitting the road to check off yet another goal on my list. Sometimes, I still can’t believe I’m here. Even with the crowded trains, Mickey and Minnie on the train tracks, small apartments, guys yelling “Yo Ma” at every block, hitting up random premieres with and without appearances of the stars that will grace your screen, rushing to the laundromat (or sending your clothes out – because really, who has in unit washer and dryer here?). Plus more.
